There is a long list of names on the ballot, be sure to do your research before you vote.

Rockbridge County Clerk General and Chief Electoral Officer Sheila Hall said there have been some changes to election laws over the past year. For example, Virginia’s voter identification law was repealed last year, so people who vote can sign a confirmation of identity statement instead of providing identification.

Another change that many have already taken advantage of: early voting. Hall said more than 350 people voted early.

Hall attributes the increase in numbers to the ease with which it was to vote in advance, especially when people stumbled upon the precinct while shopping.

“Since you don’t need to have an excuse, you just walk in. It has been very convenient for people and I hope they will use it for the future because it is convenient, to come and do something else and our speaker is here in the office, ”said Hall.

Although masks are not mandatory at polling stations, Hall said there was no way for them to regulate, election officials still have safety precautions in place.

“We always wipe, always keep your distance. We will have PPE supplies there for you if you choose to wear them, our officers will always be protected behind the sneeze guards, ”said Hall.

The county mailed out 213 mail-in ballots and 153 were returned on Monday, June 7 at 9 a.m.

Remember, if you have a postal ballot, you can return it to your registrar or constituency office before 7:00 p.m. If it is posted, it must be postmarked before Tuesday, June 8.
